Vocation skill empowerment for youths – ARISE Project.

The ARISE project focused on withdrawing and preventing children from hazardous child labour especially in tobacco farm and the entire supply chain and empower them with vocational skills under TEVETA or reintegrate back them into formal education as part of the rehabilitation process. Through mentorship and close monitoring 311 out of 314 children (now youths) that were enrolled in vocational skills training successfully completed the training and some have been linked for business opportunities and other have either started small businesses or employed.  On the other hand, 532 out of 550 have been progressing with the formal education and other have even completed secondary education. The picture beside shows some of the children that underwent bricklaying training. Those that did bricklaying were given at tender to plaster a new classroom block for school constructed through the PTA initiative and Community Development Fund (CDF) fund in Kambwize community, Nkeyema District.
