OVC Care and Support – UNICEF Funded Project

Background: Jesus Cares Ministries in partnered with UNICEF on OVC Care and Support project from 2003 to 2006 covering Luapula and Copperbelt province. The project provided education support to OVC and provided Income Generation Activity Support to identified vulnerable households.

Achievement and Impact: Jesus Cares Ministries under this project provided care and support to over 3,000 OVC with education support on the Copperbelt in Kitwe (Mulenga Compound), Ndola (Chipulukusu Compound) and Chingola (Kapisha Compound). The community committees formed in 2003 are still active and providing awareness raising on children and women’s rights. JCM has community schools in the targeted communities which provide education and psychosocial support to OVC. To this date, JCM has continued to provide oversight but the community schools are self-sustaining in terms of the day-to-day running due the sustainability strategies that were developed with the support from the community.
