Scaling up on care and support for Orphans and vulnerable children in Lusaka – Global Funds
Background: Jesus Cares Ministries under this project provided care and support to Orphans and vulnerable children with particular emphasis on education support in Lusaka district from 2008 to 2011. This was made possible with the support from the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ). EFZ was in partnership with CHAZ under the round 8 funding of the Global Fund on HIV/AIDS.
Achievement and Impact: A total number of 214 children were successfully withdrawn from the streets and also those involved in child labour such as stone crushing and supported with primary and secondary education. The children and their guardians were provided with psychosocial counseling and later reintegrated into Government Schools. Scholastic materials such as books, school bags, uniforms, pencils and shoes were provided to children. In addition, JCM supported 13 youths in various fields of study ranging from Banking and Finance, Accounts, Business Administration, Chartered Institute of Purchase and Supply, Computer Studies, Electrical engineering, Auto mechanics, secretarial studies and social work.
